Whether it's a physical or mental mountain you want to climb, Wilderness Journeys upholds the idea that nature has the power to unleash creativity and unlock a healthy mind. Come kayaking, wild camping, writing or recharging with us in the wilderness of Sri Lanka.
Trips in 2018
In 2018, we are hosting four amazing weeks of activity and adventure. A yoga retreat in early May; a writing retreat in mid May and a recharging retreat later in May. An organised kayaking skills week on the river Kelani in Kithulgala will take place in September.
Our writing retreats, recharging and yoga weeks are set at Amba Estate, a working organic farm and guesthouse in the Uva highlands of Sri Lanka. Amba Estate is set in a very peaceful, remote location surrounded by its own forest reserve and waterfalls.
Kayaking in Sri Lanka is the ideal place to develop paddling skills, the water is warm, there is plenty of flow and skill level can be tailored to different sections of the river and the size of the rapids (from class I to class IV). This week long course is designed for beginner to intermediate kayakers who want to develop their white water kayaking skills.
We can organise tailor made kayaking trips, tours and lessons (from half a day to a week) for groups or individuals whether complete beginners or advanced paddlers. Even if you've never paddled, we'll teach you the basics of white water paddling.
We can also organise wild camping and hiking trips for small groups, whether in addition to, or separate from our other planned pop-up weeks. These are set in remote mountain and river locations of Sri Lanka.
Who are our journeys for?
There is no lower or upper age limit and you can come alone, or with a partner or friend/s. If you are appealed by any of our journeys but not sure whether it's right for you, get in touch and we can talk over the details with you. Bringing children along for the retreat weeks at Amba Estate is possible, but programme activities are designed for adults so child care would need to be arranged separately by yourself. We'll do our best to help you arrange this. We don't currently have kayaks suitable for children, but again if you want to bring them along while you paddle, you just need to organise child care.
